The recent report of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) 'Combatting Predatory Academic Journals and Conferences' reveals that more than 15,000 predatory journals exist, and the number is increasing. As methods become more sophisticated, it is increasingly difficult to identify predatory journals.

The Charité Medical Library wants to raise authors’ awareness of predatory journals and improve understanding of predatory practices. From May 2022 onwards, regular events on this topic will be offered, such as:

On May 30, the Lightning Talk by Prof. Dr. med. Frank Heinzel "Submit.Panic.Withdraw - An author's experience of a predatory publisher" took place, in which he shared his experience of submitting to a predatory journal (15 min talk, 15 min discussion).

June 27, 13 to 14:
Workshop "Caution, Rip-Off! How to recognize and avoid predatory journals”

In this interactive workshop, we will discuss the procedure and tools to distinguish serious from unethical journals. Participants will apply their knowledge in practical exercises and are welcome to bring own journal examples that are of unsure quality to them.
